After the success of a playtest tournament run by the staff of Rooster Teeth, it was decided that they would start a league to allow for competitive play in the community. Burnie Burns was the main person behind the whole first season. Teams were registered around New Years and play began January 7th, 2008. Teams were split into nine divisions with nine to eleven teams in each. The regular season ended with 90 teams on February 17th, 2008. The nine division winners plus seven wild card teams made up a sixteen team tournament to decide the champion. Cannonball beat Grunts of Fury for the first championship crown.

After the conclusion of the AGLA's first season, Burnie announced that he would pass on commissioner duties for the future. It wasn't long before it was announced that TTL Quikthnkr would be the new commissioner. With help from Burnie, Quikthnkr went to quick work getting ready for the second season. Registration for teams from the winter league, dubbed "Legacy Teams", opened 24 hours before public registration opened. Public registration was closed mere hours after opening. Because of the large boost in interest, the league expanded to 192 American teams and 24 United Kingdom teams. The American teams were split into two conferences, the Sword and Hammer Conferences, with each conference holding 16 divisions of 6 teams. Each conference will have a 32 team playoff during the postseason with the two winners playing for the championship. The UK teams will hold their own smaller conference with 4 divisions of six teams. Play is to begin March 24th, 2008.

[edit] League Specific Rules

  • Matches in the AGLA consist of nine rounds instead of the standard five. All nine rounds must be played even if one team has reached the five points needed to win the match.
  • Teams can have up to eight players registered on their roster.
  • Each match must be played on the most recent version of the court.
