1. HISTORY

In Business Reservations Ltd (now known as Zibrant), was founded in 1988 by Hayley Phillips-Moul and Ken Brown. Ken Brown was responsible for the initial financing of the Company whereas Hayley came from a strong hotel background and her extensive knowledge and experience within the industry formed a solid foundation for the Company to emerge.

In 1988, the Company was based in a small office above a travel agents shop in the centre of Derby. The business continued to grow and in 1990 the Company moved to larger offices at Heritage Gate.

Fay Sharpe joined the Company in 1992 as shareholder and Sales and Marketing Director. Fay’s extensive hotel background and sales experience helped IBR focus on obtaining business from new clients and increase business from existing clients. Fay opened the Guildford Sales office in 1995 to concentrate her team on Sales and Marketing and have a base nearer to the London market. The continued success of both the Sales team to obtain new business and the Operations team to develop and maintain existing business led to the Operations team in Derby moving base within the Heritage Gate development in 1994 and again in 1998, the same year Chris Madge (now Managing Director) joined the Company in the capacity of Finance Director.

In 1999, Chris Parnham was appointed as Events and Communications Director and with this expansion ILLICO events was launched – a specialist department offering full event management services to clients including venue find, stage sets, audio-visual equipment, delegate registration, logistics, themed events, incentives, speakers and entertainment.

The company grew rapidly and IBR moved to new purpose built offices on Pride Park, Derby in August 2003.

In 2004, IBR acquired McGarvey Russell, an Air Travel Organisers' Licensing (ATOL) bonded, high-quality provider of Event Logistics Management, Incentive Travel and Motivation, and MRM, facilitating IBR with total event solution capabilities.

In August 2005 a decision was made to re-brand all four companies, IBR, Illico Events, MRM and McGarvey Russell under the umbrella brand – Zibrant. This allowed the company to consolidate its presence as a market leader.

Expanding Zibrant’s portfolio of services further, Zibrant acquired RAND, the UK’s first venue find agency, in October 2006 – the company now operated out of three locations UK wide – Derby, Godalming and Canterbury.

On 17th October 2007, Motivcom PLC, one of the UK’s leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) service providers acquired Zibrant in a £15 million deal however Zibrant would remain an independent company with the Motivcom portfolio. The acquisition saw Nigel Cooper, Executive Director, Motivcom join Zibrant’s board of directors and Chris Madge, Managing Director, Zibrant, join the Motivcom board.

Zibrant launched their first overseas office in May 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, a move which directly reflected clients needs and interest in the Pan Asian MICE market.
