"In 1996 Zianon Pazniak had to leave the country to escape a potential arrest or even liquidation by the forces of the Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenka. He was granted political asylum in the United States." This is pure speculation, and hardly neutral, impartial or even informative. Opinion isn't really what an encyclopedia is for (online or otherwise). You could as easily speculate that Pazniak left to try and get US support to put him in power and have Lukashenko arrested. I suggest that the article sticks to the facts!

Can someone with knowledge on the subject correct the verb absolvated? There is no such word and so the meaning is abmiguous.

The article means to say that Zianon Pazniak graduated from university (I've looked this up in the Belarusian and Russian Wikis for verification.) This has now been cleaned up along with some other instances of grammatical ungainliness.
