[edit] SO, HERE IT GOES...

Title of book/article/film: TOXIN-FREE COTTONSEED ENGINEERED; COULD FEED MILLIONS, STUDY SAYS. (OBTAINED FROM THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC WEBSITE)
Author/Producer: Kelly Hearn
Date of production: November 20, 2006

This article:” TOXIN-FREE COTTONSEED ENGINEERED; COULD FEED MILLIONS, STUDY SAYS.” Written by a National Geographic writer, ::Kelly Hearn, is basically about how a toxin chemical being removed mostly from the cottonseed, can help feed hundred ::of millions of people in the world.
There are a few fascinating scientific concepts featured in this article.

The first concept mentioned in the article is that nutrient-rich cottonseeds are unfit for human consumption due to a noxious (harmful or injurious to health) chemical called: gossypol. This provides protection against pests and diseases in the cottonseeds but is harmful to humans and many animals.

The article also mentions that currently, cottonseeds are made into feed for cows as they can take gossypol due to the special microbes( an organism that is microscopic) in their stomachs.

The last concept mentioned in the article is the RNA (Ribonucleic acid) interference.

To “silence” a cell (which has to be done by genetically engineering), it needs to be done by injecting a cell with the matching strand for a certain mRNA (messenger RNA) silences all expression of the associated gene. The rest of the process is explained simply by “Using RNAi to create a hybrid gene driven by a natural device that guides expression to limit the effects of the genetic tinkering to the seed only.”(As quoted from the article)

Hence, the product is- Cottonseeds with lesser gossypol which is then deemed fit for human consumption. This also means that the cottonseed is able to discourage insects from chewing on them.
