[edit] Auckland Zoo

Impressing work on Auckland Zoo, and greetings from Sweden. www.elephant.se / www.elephant-news.com Dan Koehl (talk) 19:28, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Auckland Zoo

I've added some comments for you at Wikipedia:Peer review/Auckland Zoo/archive1. The Rambling Man (talk) 08:33, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Greetings from NZ

Ho Jeremy, thanks for the compliments - all I'm really doing on the zoo pages is adding a bit more categorisation and stubbing (the articles should have a regional geo-stub as well as a zoo stub). Looks like you're doing good work on zoo articles. B TW, as for "Greetings from NZ", I'm here too - down in Dunedin. You might like to check out Wikipedia:New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board sometime if you're interested in joining up with the WP kiwi contingent :) Grutness...wha? 00:18, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Commons

Please, you must (i.e. really really should) upload your photographs to Wikimedia Commons. Make a category there for Auckland Zoo if you like, that would be a good addition. I have an account there with the same name if you need any help. Richard001 (talk) 08:33, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

That's okay. It's not 'wrong' to upload here, just not quite as good. Did you notice the suggestion to upload there when uploading? By the way, on talk pages we generally post new messages at the bottom of the page. You can use the '+' tab just next to edit this page to do this if you like. Just drop me a line if you are unsure about anything. Best, Richard001 (talk) 07:19, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use images

Hi, I have tagged several of the images you have uploaded as being replaceable. The basic policy at Wikipedia is if a free image can be created (as opposed to if an image can be found, or is otherwise available), then it is replaceable. Another thing you have to keep in mind is that there has to be significance to the image itself, rather than what's in the image. And it seems that most of your non-free uploads, including those that aren't replacable, fall under decorative use, not fair use. --Mosmof (talk) 00:33, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey ZoofanNZ, just a few pointers at this time, I'd take it back to another peer review before you push for GA/FA, if indeed that's your plan.

  • Check the manual of style about hypens in year ranges, we usually use an en-dash to separate these.
  • You have a lot of very short paragraphs, some even single sentence paragraphs. Merge them and ensure they flow well to improve the prose.
  • On that note, I don't think you need ten sections for the history, perhaps five at most?
  • I'd need to re-review once you placed the citations in-line to check that all the claims in the article are referenced.

Let me know when you're done with the citations and are ready to proceed...! All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 14:24, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Panda

Ok, so I checked the image. The issue is that you uploaded an image that you said was copyrighted and included a rationale for why it should be accepted. But its of a subject that in theory we can get a free image of (the panda), so we can't accept the copyrighted version. If its actually a free image (something no one owns a copyright to), then we can use it and I'll restore it for your use. Drop me a line at my talk page if possible. MBisanz talk 08:43, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

I may have mis-explained it. The image you uploaded was a copyrighted image of the panda who was the subject of the article. Since that panda is presumably still alive, in theory we could get a free picture of him by walking down to the zoo and taking one. So since in theory there is a way we can get a free image of that panda for that article, we can't use a copyrighted image of that panda in that article. Is that more clear? MBisanz talk 08:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Don't worry about it. I was new here once as well and its really a pleasure to help nice new users like yourself. If you ever need any help, feel free to drop me a line. And if that panda unfortunatly dies before we find a free image of it, lemme know and I can drop in the picture you uploaded in 5 seconds. MBisanz talk 09:02, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
