Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed your edit at The Penultimate Peril. While I can see how this could be seen as improving the article, I have reverted it since it didn't really follow the ideas of Wikipedia. Most noticably, it reads more like an essay than an encyclopedia article. Opinions, such as those found at the end of your edits, shouldn't be added to articles, and introductions should be straightforward. The information added about the Baudelaires can already be found in the articles for the characters, and has more detail there. We assume that our audience is educated and knows the meaning of penultimate, but even if we didn't, we would add a link to the appropriate article (most likely in en.wiktionary) instead of defining it in the introduction.

I would encourage you to look over the help and community sections to learn more about making useful edits here. Unfortunately, it seems very to find informative introductions to the general style used here and the policies followed. You could try WP:POL for a summary of policies, and WP:MOS for informaton on the style used. The policies are most important, as they determine what edits will be kept. WP:V and the no speculation part of WP:NOT are of particular importance when editing SoUE articles here. Look at the edit history for Book the Thirteenth for an illustration of how many people don't know about these.

If you need any more information, feel free to as at the Help Desk. I fear I don't know very much about the resources available to new users. --Constantine Evans 17:50, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Thanx!

OK AND THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO MY ATTENTION. Its all right if you reverted it but see, i did a book report on this book and i thought it was good so i put it there. I'm only in 9th grade so i can understand that this is not in the form of an encyclopedia article. Thanx again, i hope you understand me! BYE!

P.S- Are you the person that wrote the original article? Are you one of the founders or board of wikipedia? (cuz that would be so cool). once again, BYE!

No, I am nowhere near that involved in Wikipedia. I am not even an administrator, though I am involved in improving policy. I made some significant changes to Book the Thirteenth, mainly by removing the speculation that had engulfed the article and editing the style to be more professional. Jimmy Wales founded Wikipedia, and it is overseen by the Wikimedia Foundation and the Arbitration Committee.
But don't be discouraged by my reverting the change - this happens all the time. In fact, most new editors to the SoUE articles have their edits reverted at first. If you are interested in helping us cover the series, you might want to look at WikiProject A Series of Unfortunate Events. They have a list of articles which are in need of improvement or creation, and other useful resources. The Penultimate Peril will likely not be in need of any significant modification until Book the Thirteenth is released, at which point much of the speculation and clue information will need to be replaced. We have respected editors who are much younger than you, so you can certainly help.
By the way, users usually sign their comments on talk pages with ~~~~, which will make a signature like mine (except without the --, which I have added). --Constantine Evans 00:58, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
