[edit] Pictures and Cleanup
Somebody should put in this article a picture of a Zwinky. This article really needs a cleanup. This article needs more information and less repeating already known information. It realy looks terrible and doesnt give you the information that you need. 71.126.37.50 16:50, 27 April 2007 (UTC)ng103769
- On the one hand, I agree. On the other, I loathe Zwinky's with such a passion that I feel this terrible article is a fitting tribute. 24.235.231.138 19:38, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spyware...
Aren't Zwinkies spyware? It really should mention that... --Anotherpongo 16:10, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- The MyWebSearch toolbar is. I don't know if Zwinkies themselves are. I'm also not sure whether this is subject is really notable. Kafziel Talk 16:20, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- Notable or not, I believe wikipedia should uphold the noble duty of holding this article so that when someone wants to know about this program, they'll know about the secret MyWebSearch toolbar, which may be unwanted and considered malicious. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Can Not (talk • contribs) 03:31, 14 March 2007 (UTC).
- Why wouldn't you just Google it and find the same (or better) information on any of a dozen sites? Kafziel Talk 03:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- Not everyone wants to use google. Many people would prefer to see what wikipedia says. How many that is, I don't know, but we shouldn't disappoint them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Can Not (talk • contribs) 13:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC).
- Just because someone wants to watch cartoons on CNN doesn't mean they get their way. Kafziel Talk 15:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think I might just say that I'm a human who was just staring at that weird ad on my myspace profile (zwinky ad) having a shitload of questions like what is this crap? where do they get money to advertise so heavily? who owns it? and I think this article just gave a shitload of good answers and I think I you would be watching CNN on Joost or something similar you could watch cartoons on CNN. In case a voting for deletion or something springs up I oppose Okyea 04:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- There was a speedy deletion request a while back which I declined, and I don't think this is in any particular danger of being deleted. But it's still important to keep the information relevant, to establish notability in some tangible way, and to keep it factual. Kafziel Talk 04:38, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
- I am one of those people that came to wikipedia first to find out what this thing is all about. Why all the ads? Why the catchy commercials? All this over avatars? There are tons (and better) of customizeable avatar sites and not all of them have a tv ad running every hour on late night television. Of course there is something hidden behind these things, and it's natural people will come to wikipedia to see what it might be. And if it's true and pertains to Zwinky, then why shouldn't it be posted?
- I agree, but we have make sure content is to be verifiable, and not post random rumors. (yes, I came here also to find out what the hell Zwinky is about). Root4(one) 03:38, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- the fact that zwinky will not install if the user doesn't declare an age of 13 or older is an indicator that information gathering that requires consent is definitely happening. There's no doubt in my mind that kids are entering false birthdates to get it to install. The level of scamming going on here, directed at young kids,is CERTAINLY notable.

(( There is actually doubt as to whether there is adware and/or spyware (though seriously, adware and spyware are both subgroups of MALWARE) all over this? Okay, people, their thing is free, yet they can even advertise on television; that, along with the fact that blockers and other security tools will block out the site and the crap associated with it pretty completely, is proof that there is indeed malware associated with it. Adware is how they make their money, a fact that should be noted in the article, and spyware pretty much always comes with adware (it's how it spreads so easily), so yeah, it needs to be in the article. )) - Brandon Harwell
[edit] Spwyare Free according to International Charter
The MyWebSearch toolbar is not spyware. It was certified by the International Charter as "Spyware Free". http://helpint.mywebsearch.com/intlinfo/help/notspyware.jhtml
- So mywebsearch.com says the mywebsearch toolbar isn't spyware? Good source... ha ha ha.
- It's not spyware if you draw a line between spyware and adware. But most laymen use the terms interchangeably. I do agree with your changes to the article, however. Kafziel Talk 14:30, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spyware
Save the spyware accusations for the MyWay Searchbar page; whether the searchbar is spyware or not, Zwinkies themselves are not spyware, so saying they are part of the searchbar is sufficient. Kafziel Talk 15:15, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
(( Problem is, the MyWay Searchbar and Zwinky go hand in hand, they are essentially two espects of the same program. So it is fair to say the malware accusation is fitting for Zwinky since the two are not separate. )) - Brandon Harwell
-
- I agree with Brandon. However, as long as the fact that the Searchbar comes bundled with it AND the fact that it has been accused of being spyware are featured prominently on the article, this should suffice. It gives the reader enough information to know there is good reason to read the other article. If the article failed to inform readers that a potentially malicious program came bundled, it would be incomplete. -Lciaccio (talk) 23:46, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] waaah my business model
it's NOT spyware! We're not doing anything wrong! Why are you picking on meee —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.126.153 (talk) 20:09, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
(1)Its meant for teenagers yet it has become sexually explicit.. Every chat room you enter there is a group of people doing dirty talk. Its disgusting. (2) Zwinky was infecting my computer without me realising. My computer bacame slower and slower until one day in shut down saying that "a virus is infecting your computer". I have seen how dangerous Zwinky is so I'm warning everyone NOT to use it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sxcmoi (talk • contribs) 03:07, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] vandalism
alright, idk y, but the first time i look on this page, there is a section of vandalism, a whole section stating that zwinky is spyware and that u shud delete ur acc and stuff, y do this? and even if zwinky is spyware, u shudnt state that it is, wikipedia is supposed to be neutral... - J-Whitt 03:57, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- And factual. I came here to find out what the annoying flashy ads were about, and I'm not particularly surprised to find out that it's linked to not only spyware but a particularly pain in the butt to get rid of spyware. This is useful information that needs to stay in the article. Knowing that it's spyware, you can then choose to install or not. It allows you to make an informed decision. —Preceding unsigned comment added by StarChaser Tyger (talk • contribs) 08:28, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Proposing Merge
Proposing a merge with MyWay Searchbar. They are very similar products, this article should be merged into FunWebProducts or into MyWay Searchbar. Sljaxon (talk) 23:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm going to go through with the merge because there is no objection. Following WP:MERGE guidelines (of course). Sljaxon (talk) (contributions) 16:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Um, you need to wait for more than a day or two for responses. And Zwinkies are plenty notable enough to stand on their own, unfortunately. Probably more notable than the search bar itself. Kafziel Complaint Department 17:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- The searchbar often infects computers without going through Zwinky, so I think it should be separate. SteveSims (talk) 20:56, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
I found this page searching for info on Zwinky, so I have to vote against merging. Having a link to the related page ought to be enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.65.77.28 (talk) 13:31, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
i think they should make it more safe for people to talk on Zwinky because someone might say personal info and get into trouble.
Nothing333 (talk) 20:02, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Well um zwinky is a virus...seriously dudes —Preceding unsigned comment added by Casey Craig (talk • contribs) 23:14, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
