Talk:Ziggy Marley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You may want to recheck the comment about David Marley's nickname Ziggy coming from David Bowie's album. I believe you will find that the nickname came from a football/soccer expression - ziggy.
also rumored to have been after a big joint
He's definitely not nicknamed after David Bowie and his album, that's simply bullshit. His mother Rita called and baptised him David, but his father Bob nicknamed him "Ziggy" in reference to a big spliff. That's what Ziggy said in an interview. -- CdaMVvWgS 22:58, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
- You know how ludacris that sounds, who would name their kid after a soccer expression? Also, who calls a big joint a "ziggy"? Plus, where's the source, this "interview"? I could say that President Bush banged an 8 legged monkey with 5 asses on Hara-Kari rock with a purple tuning fork because it was stated in some interview, doesn't mean it's true.
- This is the interview. That Ziggy Stardust thing is bullshit. Period. -- CdaMVvWgS 10:37, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- Although I'm not completely confident in the reference, on page 69 of No Woman No Cry by Rita Marley she claims "...he became known as Ziggy, a pet name Bob himself had once had, and which he gave the baby three days later, saying he had football legs. Ziggy describes a move by a football (soccer) player who can outmaneuver everybody on the field." This book is filled with a lot of stuff I'm not sure about, but the interview link is dead. Is [this] the one that was meant? 84.104.220.211 (talk) 22:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fallen is Babylon
Fallen is Babylon was a very succesful album. It was not part of the "decline in sales".
[edit] Marriage clarification
Did Ziggy Marley marry a VP at William Morris Agency in 2004, or did he simply -decide- to marry one during that year? SlapAyoda 00:42, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
He married a VP that use to work for WMA.
[edit] Religion
Is Ziggy - as his father, Damian or Stephen - a Rastafarian? I think it would be quite important, as he is the son of the most famous Rasta ever, Bob Marley! And once there were some rumours that he wants to convert to Judaism, I think we should add some information about that, especially because all of his brothers adhere the Rastafarian faith and express their beliefs through their songs and symbolic (e.g. the Lion of Judah or the Ethiopian Flag). --RasNehemia 17:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Ziggy as a nickname
His mother Rita called and baptised him David, but his father Bob nicknamed him "Ziggy" in reference to a big spliff [1]. The rumour that his nickname was chosen after the character "Ziggy Stardust" created by David Bowie is true.
Which is it then? --Joewithajay 14:03, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- As I said above, the Ziggy Stardust rumour is definitely not true. -- CdaMVvWgS 12:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
