[edit] Merge proposal with damper (architecture)
Whether a damper is hand-operated or automated, the basic meaning in this context is the same: to regulate air flow. Therefore the articles damper (architecture) and zone damper are about the same thing and should be merged. -- P199 13:44, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- While I agree at a basic physics level, the usage of a zone damper vs a chimney damper are very different, therefore I feel they should be kept as separate articles. Or perhaps, much of the "damper(architecture)" article should move to a "chimney damper" article, leaving the damper (architecture) as a very brief introduction and a pointer to both sub articles. -- BryanP --216.31.247.114 18:02, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

- Your second suggestion sounds good to me. Note that we should weave the Variable air volume stub into this all somehow. --Atlant 18:20, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

- The article damper (architecture) clearly intents to cover the item in all its aspects, including chimneys. While damper operation may be different, I disagree that the usage is very different, certainly not enough to warrant 2 articles (then you need a stub for every different application of a damper). A well-written article can easily handle the various applications and operations of a damper. Also, Variable air volume is a ventilation method that incorporates automatic dampers but such dampers are not limited to VAV only, and there is more to VAV than just an automatic damper. Therefore a more logical division of articles would be 1 on dampers and 1 on VAV (granted, the VAV article needs a good rewrite too). -- P199 22:18, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Merge to Damper(architecture) I say we get this merge moving. WP:BACK Alan.ca 12:01, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

- No further ojections, merge completed. -- P199 19:19, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
