Born the youngest male child, Erwin Chan was showered with excessive concern. But parents Ben and Angie knew better, so they restricted the over concern from the grandparents. From a very young age, Erwin was noted to have a self determination. This enabled him to do things which he liked exceedingly well and dislikeful things in a patatic manner.

After the simpler years, His family moved to the east. Burnfoot Terrace was to be called home for the next eight years. Erwin was enrolled in St. Andrew’s Junior School, as was his father, uncles and cousins. Following the family tradition, one might say. He would spend the next ten years becoming a gentleman: a man of grace and polish. School life was filled with fun, friends and falls. By Sec. 2, he had already moved to the current residence of Harvey Crescent.

A great portion of his life was spent in an Assemblies of God program for boys,Royal Rangers. It helped to direct a mouldable mind towards the truth and light. For a good 12 years, he spent in the boys program. After that he moved on towards the main minstry of Reaching, Teaching and Keeping boys & girls for Christ. He has also served a year in a swedish outpost where language and cultural differences in the Royal Rangers program was clearly understood.

The PSLE was a rather tragic point in his life. Having scored a minmal 204 points, he was doomed to go to normal stream. But through some complicated arrangement, he was placed in the express stream of St. Andrew’s Secondary School. There, he began to improve. “A late bloomer,” was what his father would describe him at that time. Graduation with “O” levels in 1995 with 3 distinctions, a couple of B’s, one C and a F9, he chose to enroll himself in Temasek Polytechnic.

Following the childhood dream of being a genetic engineer, he gained admittance to the Biotechnology course. He completed the three year polytechnic course. The course gave him a great opportunity to try the different branches of this new field. Coursemates provided a source of much entertainment and perhaps vice-versa.

After the diploma, he bummed around in Sydney for over 50 days. Then the call for national service came and he rose up to it. Serving as best the army saw fit, Erwin saw action at Bukit Timah as a ammunition storeman and part timer driver. The tour of duty took up two-and-a-half years of his youth. But the experiences and friendships forged during those days would last through life.

One of which was his fellow bandmate Benjamin Loh, to be known later as April Rain. Co author of http://conspiracypenguins.blogspot.com.

Once completed, He went to work at SGH as a sleep technician for a brief period. The first official work he would have done began the track in health and patient care. There, a refocus to be involved in biotech business and medical research ignited.

At the end of two years, Erwin attained his honours degree in biological sciences (immunology) from the University of Edinburgh. The time spent overseas prepared him for future overseas stints. Erwin also completed a biomedical training program at Umeå University in Sweden after a year.

Briefly, Erwin forayed into the world of music with a band called Stewie Says, and released an EP called Glimpse. On that album, he plays the guitar and sang on a track he wrote and co-arranged the hit single Shadows to Fade. That band has since broken up and he is currently busy with a new project Rudimen Tree.
