Zhongshan Dao
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Zhongchan Dao (simplified Chinese: 中山岛; traditional Chinese: 中山島), or Zhongshan Island, is a name that is occasionally used to refer to a piece of land located on the west bank of the Pearl River Delta in China. This area is separated from the mainland by a narrow waterway, and has a population of about 2,300,000. The mainland of Special Administrative Region of Macau is located at the southern tip of the island. The rest of the island (and more than 70% of the population) is part of the cities of Zhuhai and Zhongshan.
The area is referred to as an island by some sources, such as the Columbia Encyclopedia[1]. However, this term is not in general use [2], and sources such as the governments of Macau and Zhuhai do not refer to the area as an island.
