[edit] Inclusion of History?
I've been following up on entries about Kurmitola's (and Shamshernagar Airfield) history as a World War II air base for the Flying Tigers for operations Over the Hump, taking fuel and supplies to Kunming, China from India. For instance, see Charles Woods. There are a few third party website that talks quite descriptively about the use of Kurmitola and Shamshernagar as US Army Air Corps bases. There's a 3rd party website with black and white photos of aircraft at Kurmitola too afaik. I am pretty convinced that Kurmitola refers specifically to present day Zia Int'l Airport, while the predominant airport for Dhaka was otherwise Tejgaon airport till 1981
Similarly (but not sure if this is the right place to discuss it), Feni Airfield (now abandoned) was used by the Royal Air Force / British Army as a base too for separate South-east Asia operations.
