User talk:ZeroOne/Userboxes/php

[edit] Cutesy, but I don't think so

The thing was changed to this lately (substing a bit):

<? This user can code in PHP. ?>

This is, um, cute, but also silly for a few reasons:

  1. It sticks out from among the programming userboxes. Wrong colors, wrong layout.
  2. This is frigging 2006. Everyone has "short_open_tag == no_no_frigging_OFF_believe_me" in php.ini. Or, more accurately, wish they had. Or, more accurately, if they knew what it meant and they had software that would work without they wish they had. =)

Here's what I thought...

<?php This user can code in PHP. ?>

... but that still leaves the consistency issue.

I recommend sticking to the old version, unless there's a good justification from deviate from the "standards" set by other programming language boxes. I admit the current programming language boxes are a bit dull, but they seem to do their job. Almost. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 20:08, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

*sigh* I went back to the second of these. I don't want to be mean to the user who created such beautiful thing, plus it *is* better and cleverer than the previous box *and* the language boxes need redesign anyway.
Thoughts? I'm torn by emotional strife over choosing the tradition and aesthetics. --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 20:16, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Right...

I changed it. You're right, I should have discussed it here first. I understand that there's a pattern or layout to follow but I just thought it'd look nicer since it's not a level of PHP instead just the overall "Can code in PHP" userbox. Whatever. It looks better now. Thanks for the changes. Short tags are rarely seen but everyone who writes PHP knows them and can recognize them. Still looks better now. --Killioughtta 04:05, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Move?

I'm wondering why this template was moved. Other programming language templates were kept in the Template space. Why should the php boxes be moved then? Dan0 00 19:47, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
