Zablon Mgonja was born in Dar es Salaam Tanzania on October 25, 1979. He belongs to pare ethnic group found in Kilimanjaro, Northern Tanzania. He was educated in Kiranga primary school in Mamba-vunta, Same district in Kilimanjaro Tanzania. He later moved to Dar es Salaam where he finished his primary education in 1988. He joined Kinondoni Muslim secondary school and lasted there for six months before he transferred to Makumira secondary school in Arusha region where he graduated from his ordinary level of secondary education. In 1999 he joined Jitegemee JKT high school where he graduated two years later in 2001. Zablon joined the University of Dar es Salaam where he studied B.A. Education majoring in English linguistics and Geography. Right after his final examinations in 2006, Zablon was awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship which sent him to Fisk University in Nashville Tennessee USA, where he taught Swahili and Tanzanian culture. While at Fisk, Zablon presented a paper on Ukeketaji, Female circumcision and culture. He also wrote several poems which are mostly relate to his emotional life and people in his immediate inner circle.
Currently Zablon is a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin Madison where he is pursuing his Masters degree in African Languages and literature. He also works as a teaching assistant whereas he teaches Swahili.
Zablon is currently working on the nature of bongo flava and its influence in the development of Swahili language.
