Zephon is a video game character in the Legacy of Kain series. He was voiced by Tony Jay.
[edit] Sarafan life
Zephon was born over 500 years before the start of the first game. He became one of the leaders of the Sarafan Order. He was among those who stormed Janos Audron's keep and aided in his murder. After helping to kill Janos, Zephon was slain by a future version of his fellow Sarafan Raziel. After his death, Zephon was interred in the Sarafan's holy tomb.
[edit] Vampire unlife
Centuries later, Zephon was risen from the Sarafan crypt as Kain's second youngest son. He was given clan territory to the east of the Sanctuary of the Clan. This territory included a cathedral humans used as a stronghold and planned holy-weapon against the vampires. As the centuries progressed, Zephon evolved/degenerated into a massive arachnid with spinnerets and a (presumably sterile) egg-producing sac. Zephon's arachnid-like traits were passed onto his spawn, who were much smaller and acted as drones for Zephon as his permanent inhabitation of the top chamber of the cathedral meant that when he entered his states of accelerated metamorphosis, his body was grafted into the walls of the chamber, effectively becoming a part of the cathedral itself. Some time between Raziel's execution and his resurrection as a wraith, Zephon's brood conquered the Silenced Cathedral and made the construct their hive.
Raziel fought Zephon and used fire to destroy his massive body. Upon devouring Zephon's soul, Raziel obtained the ability to climb certain cracked or broken surfaces - a weaker version of the Zephonim ability to climb on walls and ceilings like an insect or arachnid. This skill can only be used on certain walls, ones with a cracked texture, and only in the Material Realm. However, by the time of Legacy of Kain: Defiance, that last limitation is lifted. The ingame explanation is the weakening of the dimensional boundaries following the corruption of the Pillars, yet, the same is not true neither a hundred nor a thousand years after their destruction.
